TalkShop will enable folks to develop Communities with Discussion Forums powered by the TalkShop Core API and News Feeds delivered by the News Syndication Service. Once the core micro-blogging platform is in place, I will be developing and launching a number of Community Websites for various domains. Eventually, I will open up the TalkShop API to enable Premium Subscribers to create their own public/private communities on their own. TalkShop subscribers will be able to participate in multiple communities with a single id.
The first of these Community websites in the pipeline is Plane-Talk: a Community & Discussion Forum aimed at Aviators and Aviaton-Geeks. Plane-Talk will be the first of many and will serve as a POC (Proof Of Concept) for future communities in the pipeline.
How will this tie-in with TalkShop? The News feed will be provided by our NSS which will feed Aviation specific news feed to the site. The discussion forum will be powered by TalkShop Core API.
Posts made by the Subscriber on Public Forums will be visible on his public Timeline AND on the Community Forum. However only subscribers registered on the AvGeek website will be able to Engage with the posts made on the forum - i.e. Reply to or like these Posts.
A subscriber can choose to target his post either on one of the community boards or on his Public Board. His/Her followers will be able to see all the post they make but only those subscribed to the Community can engage with Posts targeted for a Community.
For eg. if I chose to make a Post on Air India's new route to LAX, i can chose to make it Public, in which case all my followers can see and engage with that post. However, if i chose to post it on one of the PlaneTalk Forums, only subscribers of the community will be able to engage with that post. I hope that explains the concept.
I believe in Freedom of Speech. So there will be limited moderation of posts on the Communities. For one thing, there will be no restriction on discussing politics on the boards as long as it is related to the topic. This is a major problem on some existing boards. For eg. How does one discuss aircraft orders or bilaterals without mentioning the politics of it?! Further, No posts will be deleted - EVER! Posts that break the rules (going off-topic or abusive) will only be "detached" from the board! Posts that are detached from a Board Topic will still be present on the Users timeline visible to his followers. Hope this will address some of the major issues with current discussion boards.
Other features planned:
1. Plane wiki - a wiki for all airliners/civil aircraft to be maintained by Subscribers themselves.
2. Blog Posts - Long form articles by (Premium) Subscribers. Premium Subscribers will have their own custom URL for their articles.
3. Airline Crew - There will be a separate board (or maybe 3) open only to Subscribers who are Airline crew/staff. Posts made on these specific boards will not be visible/accessible to public or to other members of the community. Most requested feature on our Twitter Space/Google Group discussions!
4. Jobs section - This will be a major feature eventually. Though this might not come before Oct 2025 given the Development timeline.
What other features would you like to see? Let me know in the comments below or via email at kaleshibua@gmail.com.
TalkShop will be funded entirely by subscriptions after October 2025. The subscription fee will be $25/year for TalkShop. However to raise funds for the development, the first 300 subscribers will get free access FOR LIFE and also be part of the "Founding Members" group. Founding members will get access to the Beta site immediately on deployment and be part of discussion groups during the interim development phase between January and April.
Folks can nominate friends/family for subscriptions. So members donating $75 can nominate themselves and 2 others as TalkShop Founding Members.
